Reflecting Joy®: Healing, Joy, and Wholeness for Black Women
"It is your birthright to be happy, successful and fulfilled." - 4th Law of Ifa (African Spiritual Practice).
What Does It Mean to Reflect Joy?
Reflecting Joy® isn’t just a name—it’s a promise. It’s a love letter to Black women who’ve spent their lives giving, sacrificing, and surviving. It’s an invitation to remember what’s always been ours—joy, wholeness, and authenticity. At its heart, Reflecting Joy® is about reclaiming the pieces of ourselves that life tried to bury and letting them shine.
A Tribute to My Mother and Every Black Woman Who Gives Too Much
Reflecting Joy® is deeply personal for me. It’s named in honor of my mother, Joye Delph Ifill, who gave so much of herself that she often had nothing left. It’s for all the Black women who’ve been told their worth is tied to how much they can give, even if it costs them their peace.
And honestly? It’s for me too. My journey hasn’t been easy. I grew up with anxiety, insecurity, and the weight of feeling like I had to be strong all the time. Reflecting Joy® came out of my decision to stop letting my past define me and start building a life that felt good and whole. It’s about honoring what we’ve been through without letting it hold us back.
Joy Is a Birthright, Not a Reward
Let’s be real—joy isn’t about everything being easy or perfect. Life can be messy. Reflecting Joy® is about choosing to see the beauty in the mess. It’s about dancing even when it’s raining, finding music when things feel quiet, and believing that even our flaws serve a purpose.
In my faith tradition, joy is a birthright. It’s not something we have to earn or prove we deserve. It’s ours simply because we exist. That belief drives everything I do at Reflecting Joy®—helping women remember that joy is already inside them, even when life feels hard.
How EGO Blocks Joy
Sometimes, we get in our own way. Through my E.G.O. framework—Experience, Guardian, Obstruction—I help women recognize the beliefs and patterns keeping them stuck. A lot of us have egos that try to protect us from pain, but they can also block us from joy. Reflecting Joy® is about untangling those patterns, learning to be gentle with ourselves, and figuring out when caring for others is coming from a place of overflow—and when it’s draining us dry.
Joy as Resistance for Black Women
Joy isn’t about having it all together. It’s about showing up anyway. It’s about belly laughs with your sisters, music that makes you move, and those quiet moments where you just breathe and feel okay. Reflecting Joy® reminds us that even when life feels broken, we’re still whole. It’s about knowing we can be both soft and strong, both messy and magical—and that’s enough.
For Black women, joy is revolutionary. The world tells us we have to hustle, grind, and prove ourselves to deserve rest or happiness. Reflecting Joy® flips that script. Joy isn’t a reward; it’s our right. It’s an act of resistance against the systems that try to keep us small. Reflecting Joy® holds space for all of it—the pain, the growth, and the freedom that comes when we decide to stop surviving and start living. It’s about stepping out of struggle and into softness, out of fear and into faith.
Why I Moved Beyond Healing to Joy
Reflecting Joy® is a new chapter. My old program, R.A.W., was about healing wounds and dealing with pain. And while that’s important, it’s not the whole story. Healing pain isn’t the same as building a life that centers joy. Reflecting Joy® is about more than fixing what’s broken. It’s about creating what’s beautiful. It’s about moving beyond survival and into celebration. That’s why I made the shift—it’s time to focus on thriving, not just surviving.
Building a Joyful Life with Reflecting Joy®
Whether it’s through workshops, retreats, or my "Finding Freedom" class, Reflecting Joy® gives you the tools to get unstuck, rewrite your story, and step into your power. From guided reflections to spiritual rituals, it’s all designed to help Black women reconnect with themselves and build lives that feel good and grounded.
A Closing Invitation to Joy
Reflecting Joy® is more than a feeling—it’s a practice. It’s about showing up for yourself, even when it’s hard. It’s about knowing that even when things aren’t perfect, you are. For every Black woman who’s ever felt unseen or unworthy, Reflecting Joy® is a reminder that you don’t have to wait to feel whole. Joy isn’t something you find; it’s something you create. It’s about faith, freedom, and being fully present in your own life.
Reflecting Joy® is my way of saying: You matter. Your softness matters. Your light matters. You don’t have to earn rest, joy, or peace—they already belong to you.
To every Black woman reading this—may you choose joy today. May you choose yourself. And may you always remember that joy isn’t the absence of pain—it’s the presence of faith, love, and light. Come join me at Reflecting Joy®—let’s build something beautiful together.
